What the Haberdashers 11+ actually looks like

Haberdashers' Boys and Girls use Quest, an independent assessment format. It covers five sections in a single sitting - quite different from the GL or CEM papers most 11+ prep focuses on.

PipPrep's mock is an independent practice version built to match the published Quest structure as closely as possible. It's not official Habs content, but it gives your child a realistic run at the actual format.

What makes PipPrep different for Habs prep

Most 11+ prep apps focus on GL or CEM papers. Very few address the Quest format at all - and almost none offer a complete timed mock you can actually sit at home.

Try two Quest-style questions now

These give you a feel for the Haberdashers style. The verbal reasoning section tests word relationships and analogies - a bit harder than typical GL papers.

Verbal Reasoning - Word Analogy
Complete the analogy: Author is to novel as composer is to...
Answer: B) symphony An author creates a novel; a composer creates a symphony. The relationship is creator to their major work. Watch out for "orchestra" - that's a group that performs music, not something a composer creates.
Maths - Problem Solving
A rectangular garden is 12 m long and 8 m wide. A path 1 m wide runs all the way around the outside. What is the area of the path in m²?
Answer: B) 44 m² The outer rectangle (including path) is 14 m × 10 m = 140 m². The garden itself is 12 m × 8 m = 96 m². Path area = 140 - 96 = 44 m². The trap here is forgetting the path adds 1 m to each side, so 2 m to each dimension.

About Haberdashers entry and PipPrep

What is the Haberdashers Quest assessment?
Haberdashers' Boys and Girls schools use Quest, an independent assessment covering Maths, Non-Verbal Reasoning, English, Verbal Reasoning, and Creative Writing. The full test runs approximately 125 minutes. It's different from the GL or CEM papers used by most grammar schools, which is why standard 11+ prep often leaves gaps for Habs applicants.
Is PipPrep's mock official Haberdashers content?
No - PipPrep has no affiliation with Haberdashers' Aske's schools or the Quest assessment provider. Our mock is an independent practice paper built to match the published Quest format and timings. It exists because almost no other platform offers a full timed Habs-format practice run, and children benefit enormously from sitting the right format under real time pressure before the actual assessment day.
How does PipPrep mark the creative writing?
On the premium plan, PipPrep uses AI to score creative writing and give written feedback covering structure, vocabulary, and creativity - the dimensions that matter at selective schools. Free accounts can write the task and self-review. Creative writing is the hardest section to practise at home without feedback, so this is one of the main reasons families upgrade.
What score does my child need to pass the Haberdashers 11+?
Haberdashers' Boys is one of the most selective independent schools in the UK. The school doesn't publish a fixed pass mark, and competition varies year to year. PipPrep's parent dashboard benchmarks your child's practice scores against historical competitive-entry thresholds, so you get a realistic read on where they stand - not just a raw score with no context.
